IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) Investigators say the death of an inmate at an eastern Idaho jail was an accidental overdose.
The Post Register (http://bit.ly/17tZfF4 ) reports 47-year-old James DeWitt died Feb. 16 in his cell at the Bonneville County Jail. The Lemhi County Prosecutor's Office led the investigation and has determined that the Idaho Falls man died of drug toxicity combined with an enlarged heart. The prosecutor's office determined that neither jail officials nor DeWitt's fellow inmates were criminally liable in his death.
It's not clear what drug DeWitt overdosed on, but Bonneville County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Edwards says it wasn't any of the medicines distributed by the jail to ailing inmates.
DeWitt was booked into the jail around 5 p.m. the evening before his death. Jail staff found him unresponsive early the next morning.
