(CANYON COUNTY, Idaho) -- A 23-year-old former day care worker, who pleaded guilty last year to multiple counts of lewd conduct with a minor under 16, was sentenced on Thursday to serve 32 years to life in prison.

Joshua Ritchie told the court about his own childhood abuse from a relative and expressed remorse for his own crimes, according to the Idaho Press-Tribune.

The victim’s family was at the sentencing on Thursday, the paper reports.
