Gun Debate Off Target?

Have you been following the debate on what to do about gun violence in America? Much of my morning before the first local newscast at 5:03 am is spent listening to and editing soundbites for our newscasts. I ran across a soundbite from the U-S Senate gun violence hearing on Wednesday. Gayle Trotter of the Independent Women's Forum encouraged lawmakers not to enact any laws that make it tougher for women to protect themselves. Here is part of what she said, "Guns make women safer. Over 90% of violent crimes occur without a firearm, which make guns a great equalizer for women." I keep looking for soundbites from officials talking about other factors that have been linked to gun violence. But I'm finding few, if any. So this newsman wants to know, "Why aren't we talkng more about mental health access for people who need help?" Also, "Should America do something about all the violent video games and movies that people play and watch?". Just askin'.
