Nate Shelman
Afternoon Show:

I hate writing a biography, mostly because I fear it may be used as a eulogy at some part of my life. That being said, here's where I've been, here's what I've done and here's what I've accomplished.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, I'm used to snow. I come from a very diverse family. My mom is a former Catholic nun of German and French descent and my dad of Russian and Irish descent is Jewish. Which makes me a mutt. Went to college to be a physical therapist and somehow got diverted onto the wonderful vocation of radio. I started at an oldies stations in Cleveland, WMJI, where I was a member of the promotions and production departments. Later I worked with WMMS, a rock station, WAKS, a top 40 station, and WMVX, an adult contemporary station, before settling at WTAM, a news/talk station.

I made my way across the south from Cleveland going to WLAC in Nashville as an assistant program director and promotions director. It was in Nashville, where my ability to host a talk show was born. In 2004, I moved to Birmingham to be the program director of WERC. Four months after being hired, I was named co-host of their morning show. I've also served a as a fill-in host at WOAI - San Antonio, TX, and WGST - Atlanta, GA.

I do not claim to be a part of any political party. My views on life are mine, yours are yours. You may agree with me on somethings and disagree with me on others. Either way, I'll treat you with the utmost respect as long as you return the gesture.

I'm all about having fun. I don't hold any degrees, nor do I possess the secret to life. By the time you get to listen to my show, most of you have already worked a full day. I respect that. My job is to make your ride home enjoyable and informative.

Ken Weaver
News Department:
I am a news junky. My radio career started when I was 16 years old in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma(1984). I spun records. Yes, records for country music radio stations, mostly. You could smoke inside the studio then.(I eventually quit smoking and smell a lot better) Eventually I caught the news bug and never looked back.

The biggest story I ever covered was the Oklahoma City Bombing. I hope I never cover a story like that again. I also loved chasing tornadoes in Oklahoma for KVOO, AM 1170 in Tulsa. Good times when no one got hurt or killed. But sometimes they did. I have won awards for my work over the years but do not think it's necessary to bore you with the details.

Tom Brokaw was my biggest influence. But I really dig Sam Donaldson.

I wish those two were still at it, but eventually everyone gets old and slows down to smell the roses.

I have worked at radio stations in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas and now Idaho. Idaho is where I want to stay to raise my kids and retire. New Mexico would be my second option. I love green chile and the desert southwest and laid back lifestyle.
My hobbies include reading, watching college football (BOOMER SOONER!!!), pro football(How 'bout them Cowboys!)and chilling with good friends, good food and some cold beer. However, the time Ken spends with his family: lovely wife Jennifer, daughter Amara and son Rowan is the time he enjoys the most. Thank you for waking up with Idaho's First Morning News.

Ray Amaya
News Department
Nate Shelman Producer

Ray Amaya got his start in radio as a 17-year old high school junior. Country music station KYET 1450am in Ontario, Oregon needed someone to come in and clean from 4 to 6pm. Since then, Amaya has worked in talk radio in Boise for the past 16-years. He got his big break at the 50-thousand watt powerhouse KBOI in September of 2009 in the news department, gathering and reporting news.

When he's not at work, Ray likes hiking, photography, NHRA Championship Drag Racing, skateboarding, and is a NASA history buff. His love for America's space program led to his involvement in the hobby of model rocketry, which he has been able to share with students at local schools and kids of all ages at the Discovery Center of Idaho.
