Law enforcement officials say limited space in the Canyon County Jail means some lawbreakers with multiple offenses face nothing more than a ticket because there's no space to hold them. Officials say that is creating a public safety problem in the region. Caldwell Police Chief Chris Allgood says officers recently caught a motorist driving without a license and who had seven previous such offenses, but all that could be done was write another ticket. Allgood says that before the crowding at the jail the driver would have been taken into custody. Nampa Police Chief Bill Augsburger and Canyon County Sheriff Chris Smith say they are also seeing some offenders skirting jail because of the crowding. Smith says the county has had to water down accountability.
